So last week we did an open forum where we discussed what the acronyms really mean.
This week the Real Estate News was interesting. Mortgage Costs are Up! According to Bankrate.com while we were enjoying record low rates we were paying higher fees. That’s right mortgage fees were up 6% from 2012. This must have been a national calculation because my fees have not in creased in the past 5 years. A town in California is seriously considering Eminent Domain in an effort to keep people in their homes. This is not a new thought but it might be a new practice. Eminent domain is typically used for the “public interest.” The city of Richmond in California has had enough of the banks foreclosing and letting the real estate sit dormant. The first phase of the plan is to buy existing loans at a severe discount from the lenders and then make reduced principle loans to those people still in their homes. And finally one of my favorites The Feds say JP Morgan broke securities laws in mortgage deals. This has been in the works for a long time. The Justice Department has concluded that Chase broke securities laws when they sold mortgage bonds between 2005 and 2007. This is just one more blemish on another bank. The hits keep on coming.

Each week we discuss the myths of the mortgage market. It is not about rate. A higher rate with no mortgage insurance may provide a lower payment.
